Delhi, Varanasi, Lucknow, Agra, Jaipur, Kutch and Mumbai.
Tour 1. This tour is 22 days, We begin our tour in Delhi, the grand capital city,
exploring its fabulous bazars and magnificent architecture. We then fly to Varanasi,
an ancient and sacred Hindu city on the edge of the River Ganges and learn about the luscious silk brocade weaving that the people in the villages near Varanasi have developed over 600 years.
Our bus takes us to Lucknow where we see the delicate chican embroidery work that thousands of women in that city have turned in to an economy-based art form.
From there we travel to Agra to see the legendary Taj Mahal.
The next destination is Jaipur is a big, busy city with a long history and many heritage buildings, often coloured dusty pink. It is loaded with character, camel carts, women wearing bright saris and all manner of shops. We walk in the Jaipur bazaar, visit artisans doing gota work and aari embroidery and visit many of the famous historical sites.
We also visit the exquisite Amber Fort, high on a hill, and Bagru, a traditional block printing village.
We fly from Jaipur to Bhuj, in Kutch, in the far west of India, and explore the many different embroidery styles of this semi-arid pastoral land. We also see traditional block printers, resist dyers and camel wool weavers at work.
Our adventure finishes’ with a day in crazy but likeable Mumbai.
