Delhi, Kashmir, West Bengal and Kolkata.
Tour 2. 16 days, begins in Delhi, exploring its fabulous bazars and magnificent architecture and includes a day trip to Taj Mahal. We then fly to Kashmir, high in the Himalayas, where we experience spinning, weaving and embroidering of pashmina and follow the process from the goats to intricately beautiful shawls. We take time for tourism; a boat ride and Lake Dal and a walk in the heritage area of Srinagar. Then we fly to Bengal to focus on silk, following this sumptuous fibre from mulberry trees, to silk cocoons and then to the many different techniques of spinning, weaving and embroidering silk. We also visit villages to look at Kantha work, a quilting technique, and other embroidery unique to this area. Our tour finishes in Kolkata, the jewel in the crown of the British Empire, an imperial city that is proud of its English traditions and its 800 listed heritage Victorian buildings.
